Having settled at See also:Cambridge in 1796, Gregory first acted as sub-editor on the Cambridge Intelligencer, and then opened a bookseller's See also:shop. In 1802 he obtained an See also:appointment as mathematical See also:master at See also:Woolwich through the See also:influence of See also:Charles See also:Hutton, to whose See also:notice he had been brought by a See also:manuscript on the " Use of the Sliding See also:Rule "; and when Hutton resigned in 1807 Gregory succeeded him in the professorship. Failing See also:health obliged him to retire in 1838, and he died at Woolwich on the 2nd of See also:February 1841.
