His paintings are characteristic of the See also:Barbizon school, and he was particularly happy in his sunset and See also:twilight effects; but it was only within a few years of his See also:death that he began to have a See also:vogue among collectors. In 1897 he was elected a member of the See also:National See also:Academy of See also:Design, New York. After 1900 he lived at See also:Waterford, See also:Connecticut, where he died on the 4th of See also:August 1904.
