BALDERIC , the name given to the author of a See also:chronicle of the bishops of See also:Cambrai, written in the 11th See also:century. This Gesta episcoporum Cambracensium was for some See also:time attributed to Balderic, See also:archbishop of See also:Noyon, but it now seems tolerably certain that the author was an See also:anonymous See also:canon of Cambrai. The See also:work is of considerable importance for the See also:history of the See also:north of See also:France during the 11th century, and was first published in 1615. The best edition is in the Monumenta Germaniae historica. Scriptores, Bd. vii. (See also:Hanover and See also:Berlin, 1826–1892), which contains an introduction by L. C. Bethmann.
