BERGEDORF , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the territory of See also:Hamburg, on the See also:river Bille, to m. by See also:rail E. by S. from the See also:city. Pop. (1900) 23,728. It produces vegetables and See also:fruit for the Hamburg markets, and carries on tanning, See also:glass manufacture, See also:brewing and See also:brick-making. It received civic rights in 1275, belonged to See also:Lubeck and Hamburg conjointly from 1420 to 1868, and in the latter See also:year was See also:purchased by Hamburg. The surrounding See also:district, exceptionally fertile marshland, is known as See also:Die Vierlande, being divided into four parishes, whence the name is derived.
