BUDINI , an See also:

ancient nation in the N.E. of the See also:Scythia (q.v.) of See also:Herodotus (iv. 21, to8, 109), probably on the See also:middle course of the See also:Volga about See also:Samara. They#re described as See also:light-eyed and red-haired, and lived by See also:hunting in their thick forests. They were probably Finns of the See also:branch now represented by the Votiaks and Permiaks, forced northwards by later immigrants. In their See also:country was a wooden See also:city inhabited by a distinct See also:race, the Geloni, who seem to have spoken an Indo-See also:European See also:tongue. Later writers add nothing to our knowledge, and are chiefly interested in the tarandus, an See also:animal which dwelt in the See also:woods of the Budini and seems to have been the See also:reindeer (See also:Aristotle ap. See also:Aelian, Hist. Anim. xv. 33). (E. H.
