Its See also:population, which was 63,479 in 1883, numbered 91,672 in 1897. Owing to its situation on the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:Volga, at the convergence of the Siberian and Central Asian See also:railways, it has See also:great commercial importance, especially as a See also:depot for cereals and a centre for See also:flour-milling. A considerable See also:trade is also carried on in See also:animal products, particularly hides.
