Being an unsaturated See also:compound it combines readily with the See also:halogens. Oxidation by strong oxidizing agents converts it successively into its aldehyde, acrolein, and into acrylic See also:acid. By See also:gentle oxidation with See also:potassium permanganate it may be converted into See also:glycerin.
