It is extracted from Origanum oil by means of a to% potash See also:solution. It is a thick oil which sets at — 2o° C. to a See also:mass of crystals of melting point o°C, and boiling point 236-2370C. Oxidation with ferric chloride converts it into dicarvacrol, whilst See also:phosphorus pentachloride transforms it into chlorcymol.
