CAELIA , the name of two See also:

ancient cities in See also:Italy. (r) In See also:Apulia (mod. Ceglie di See also:Bari) on the Via Traiana, 5 M. S. of See also:Barium. Coins found here bearing the inscription Ka,Xiveev prove that it was once an See also:independent See also:town. Discoveries of ruins and tombs have also been made. (2) In See also:Calabria (mod. Ceglie Messapica) 25 M. W. of Brundusium, and 991 ft. above See also:sea-level. It was in See also:early times a See also:place of some importance, as is indicated by the remains of a prehistoric See also:enceinte and by the See also:discovery of several Messapian See also:inscriptions.
