CALI , an inland See also:

town of the See also:department of See also:Cauca, See also:Colombia, See also:South See also:America, about 18o m. S.W. of See also:Bogota and So M. S.E. of the See also:port of See also:Buenaventura, on the Rio Cali, a small See also:branch of the Cauca. Pop. (1906 estimate) 16,000. Cali stands 3327 ft. above See also:sea-level on the western See also:side of the Cauca valley, one of the healthiest regions of Colombia. The See also:land-locked See also:character of this region greatly restricts the See also:city's See also:trade and development; but it is considered the most important town in the department. It has a See also:bridge across the Cali, and a number of religious and public edifices. A railway from Buenaventura will give Cali and the valley behind it, with which it is connected by over 20o m, of See also:river See also:navigation, a See also:good outlet on the Pacific See also:coast. See also:Coal deposits exist in the immediate vicinity of the town.
