Pop. of town and See also:district (1901) 3435. It has one of the best harbours in the See also:state, easy of See also:access in all weathers, with a See also:depth ranging from 4 to 10 fathoms. Various minerals, including See also:gold and See also:tin, exist in the district; and there are preserve and See also:sauce factories, and See also:works for See also:meat See also:extract and tinning. The See also:dugong See also:fishery is carried on, and the oil is extracted. There are large See also:timber forests in the district, and much See also:cedar is exported.
