CIGAR , the See also:

common See also:term for See also:tobacco-See also:leaf prepared for smoking by being rolled into a See also:short See also:cylinder tapering to a point at the end which is placed in the mouth, the other end, which is lighted, being usually cut square (see TonAcco). The See also:Spanish cigarro is of doubtful origin, possibly connected with cigarra, a See also:cicada, from its resemblance to the See also:body of that See also:insect, or with cigarral, a word of Arabic origin meaning a See also:pleasure See also:garden. The explanation that it comes from a Cuban word for a certain See also:species of tobacco is probably erroneous, since no native word of the See also:kind is known. The diminutive, cigarette, denotes a See also:roll of cut tobacco enclosed usually in thin See also:paper, but sometimes also in tobacco-leaf or the husk of See also:Indian See also:corn.
