COMA BERENICES (" See also:BERENICE'S See also:HAIR ") , in See also:astronomy, a See also:constellation of the See also:northern hemisphere; it was first mentioned by See also:Callimachus, and Eratosthenes (3rd See also:century B.C.), but is not included in the 48 asterisms of See also:Ptolemy. It is said to have been named by See also:Conon, in See also:order to See also:console Berenice, See also:queen of Ptolemy Euergetes, for the loss of a See also:lock of her hair, which had been stolen from a See also:temple to See also:Venus. This constellation is sometimes, but wrongly, attributed to Tycho See also:Brahe. The most interesting member of this See also:group is 24 Comae, a See also:fine, wide See also:double See also:star, consisting of an See also:orange star of magnitude 51, and a See also:blue star, magnitude 7.
