DAVIDISTS , a See also:

fancy name rather than a recognized designation for three religious sects. It has been applied (1) to the followers (if he had any) of See also:David of See also:Dinant, in See also:Belgium, the teacher or See also:pupil of See also:Amalric (Amaury) of Bena, both of whom taught apparently a See also:species of See also:pantheism. David's Quaterni, or Quaternuli, condemned and burnt at See also:Paris (1209), is a lost See also:book, known only by references in Albertus See also:Magnus and See also:Thomas See also:Aquinas. Its author would have been burnt had he not fled. The name has been given (2) to the followers of David See also:George or See also:Joris (q.v.), and (3) to the followers of See also:Francis David (1510-1579), the apostle of Transylvanian See also:unitarianism.
