DINAPUR , a See also:

town and military station of See also:British See also:India, in the See also:Patna See also:district of See also:Bengal, on the right See also:bank of the See also:Ganges, 12 M. W. of Patna See also:city by See also:rail. Pop. (1901) 33,699. It is the largest military See also:cantonment in Bengal, with See also:accommodation for two batteries of See also:artillery, a See also:European and a native See also:infantry See also:regiment. In 1857 the See also:sepoy See also:garrison of the See also:place initiated the See also:mutiny of that See also:year in Patna district, but after a conflict with the European troops were forced to retire from the town, and subsequently laid See also:siege to Arrah.
