He graduated as a See also:doctor of See also:medicine in Vienna, and became in 1854 See also:professor of See also:botany and natural See also:history at the medical and surgical military See also:academy in that See also:city. In 1871 he was chosen professor of botany at See also:Graz, a position which he occupied until the See also:close of his See also:life. He was distinguished for his researches on the See also:Tertiary floras of various parts of See also:Europe, and on the fossil floras of See also:Australia and New See also:Zealand. He died at Graz on the 1st of See also:February 1897. 1882).
