adjective See also:common to See also:Teutonic See also:languages and still appearing in See also:Swedish and Danish, meaning lame, crippled. It is also used as a verb, meaning to limp, and as a substantive, especially in the See also:term " See also:string-halt " or " See also:spring-halt," a See also:nervous disorder affecting the muscles of the See also:hind legs of horses. (2) A pause or stoppage made on a See also:march or a See also:journey. The word came into See also:English in the See also:form " to make See also:alto " or " alt," and was taken from the See also:French faire alte or See also:Italian far alto.
