INDUNA , a Zulu-See also:Bantu word for an officer or See also:head of a See also:regiment among the Kaffir (Zulu-Xosa) tribes of See also:South See also:Africa. It is formed from the inflexional prefix in and duna, a See also:lord or See also:master. Indunas originally obtained and retained their rankand authority by See also:personal bravery and skill in See also:war, and often proved a menace to their nominal lord.
