KATYDID , the name given to certain See also:North See also:American See also:insects, belonging to the See also:family Locustidae, and related to the See also:green or See also:tree grasshoppers of See also:England. As in other members of the family, the chirrup, alleged to resemble the words " Katydid," is produced by the See also:friction of a See also:file on the underside of the See also:left forewing over a See also:ridge on the upperside of the right. Several See also:species, belonging mostly to the genera Microcentonus and Cyrtophallus, are known.
