KAW, or KANSA , a tribe of See also:North See also:American See also:Indians of Siouan stock. They were originally an offshoot of the Osages. Their See also:early See also:home was in See also:Missouri, whence they were driven to See also:Kansas by the Dakotas. They were moved from one See also:reservation to another, till in 1873 they were settled in See also:Indian Territory; they have since steadily decreased, and now number some 200.
