KENNEL , a small hut or shelter for a See also:

The word is apparently from a See also:Norman-See also:French kenil (this See also:form does not occur, but is seen in the Norman kinet, a little dog), See also:modern French chenil, from popular Latin canile, See also:place for a dog, canis, cf. ovile, See also:sheep-cote. The word " kennel," a See also:gutter, a drain in a See also:street or road, is a corruption of the See also:Middle See also:English canel, cannel, in- modern English " channel," from Latin See also:canalis, See also:canal.
