KILLIS , a See also:

town of N. See also:Syria, in the vilayet of See also:Aleppo, 6o in. N. of Aleppo See also:city. It is situated in an extremely fertile See also:plain, and is completely surrounded with See also:olive groves, the produce of which is reckoned the finest oil of all Syria; and its position on the See also:carriage-road from Aleppo to See also:Aintab and See also:Birejik gives it importance. The See also:population (20,000) consists largely of Circassians, Turkomans and See also:Arabs, the town lying just on the See also:northern rim of the Arab territory. As Killis lies also very near the proposed junction of the See also:Bagdad and the See also:Beirut-Aleppo See also:railways (at Tell Habesh), it is likely to increase in importance.
