See also:side of the See also:Caspian See also:Sea, opposite to See also:Baku, and at 69 ft. below sea-level. Pop. (1897), 6359. It is defended by a fort. Here begins the Transcaspian railway to Mery and See also:Bokhara. There is a fishing See also:industry, and See also:salt and See also:sulphur are obtained. Krasnovodsk, which is the See also:capital of the Transcaspian See also:province, was founded in 1869.
