A(ecewv, the name of a gymnasium and See also:garden with covered walks, near the See also:temple of See also:Apollo Lyceus ('AirbXXwv Aimecos) at See also:Athens. See also:Aristotle taught here, and hence the name was applied to his school of See also:philosophy. The name had been used in many See also:languages for places of instruction, &c. In See also:France the See also:term lycee is given to the secondary See also:schools which are administered by the See also:state, in contradistinction to the communal colleges.
