MICMAC , a tribe of See also:

North Ameftcan See also:Indians of Algonquian stock. They formerly occupied all Nova See also:Scotia, Cape See also:Breton and See also:Prince See also:Edward Islands, and portions of New See also:Brunswick, See also:Quebec and See also:Newfoundland. They fought on the See also:French See also:side in the colonial See also:wars. They are now civilized and almost all profess Catholicism. They number some 4000 in settled communities throughout their former territory. There is an excellent See also:account of the Micmac Indians in J. G. See also:Millais's Newfoundland and its Untrodden Ways (1908).
