town of See also:northern See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Oviedo, 12 M. by See also:rail S.E. of Oviedo, on the See also:river Caudal, a tributary of the Nalon. Pop. (1900), 18,083. Mieres is the See also:chief town of a mountainous, fertile and well-wooded region in which See also:coal, See also:iron, and See also:copper are extensively See also:mined and See also:sulphur and See also:cinnabar are obtained in smallet quantities. The town contains large iron foundries and chemical See also:works, and has an active See also:trade in See also:fruit, See also:cider, See also:timber and live stock.
