MONTORO , a See also:

town of See also:southern See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Cordova, 27 M. E. by N. of the See also:city of Cordova, on the See also:Madrid-Cordova railway. Pop. (1900), 14,581. Montoro was the Epora of the See also:Romans, and became an important Moorish fortress in the See also:middle ages, but it has been largely modernized. It stands on a rocky See also:peninsula on the See also:south See also:bank of the See also:Guadalquivir, here crossed by a See also:fine See also:bridge of four See also:arches dating from the 16th See also:century. Oil is largely manufactured, and there is considerable See also:trade in See also:timber, agricultural produce and livestock.
