NANAIMO , a See also:city of See also:British See also:Columbia, on the See also:east See also:coast of See also:Vancouver See also:Island. Pop. (1906) about 65oo. It is connected with See also:Victoria by the Esquimalt and Nanaimo railway, and has a daily steamer service to Vancouver, as well as to Comox, See also:Sydney and other points on the coast. It is favourably situated for growing See also:fruit, and mixed farming is carried on to a consider-able extent. There is a large export See also:trade in See also:coal from the neighbouring mines, which is sent chiefly to See also:San Francisco.
