Pop. (1901) 14,668. It has a station on the See also:branch of the Eastern Bengal railway from See also:Dacca to Jagannathganj, on the Jamuna or See also:main stream of the Brahmaputra. The See also:earthquake of the 12th of See also:June 1897 destroyed the See also:church and the high school, and seriously damaged other public buildings.
