OELSNITZ , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the See also:kingdom of See also:Saxony, on the See also:Weisse See also:Elster, 26 m. by See also:rail S.W. of See also:Zwickau. Pop. (1905) 13,966. It has two Evangelical churches, one of them being the old See also:Gothic Jakobskirche, and several See also:schools. There are various manufactories. Oelsnitz belonged in the 14th and 15th centuries to the margraves of See also:Meissen, and later to the See also:electors of Saxony. Near it is the See also:village of Voigtsberg, with the remains of a See also:castle, once a See also:residence of the See also:governor (See also:Vogt) of the See also:Vogtland. See See also:Jahn, Chronik der Stadt Olsnitz (1875).
