PANACEA (Gr. lravaKeia, all-healing, from was, all, and aueioOae, to heal) , a universal remedy, or cure for all diseases, a See also:term applied in the See also:middle ages to a mythical See also:herb supposed to possess this quality. Many herbs have had the See also:power of curing all diseases attributed to them, and have hence had the name of " all-heal "; such have been, among others, the mistletoe, the woundwort (Stachys palustris), the See also:yarrow or milfoil, and the See also:great See also:valerian.
