emperor of See also:Brazil, came to the See also:throne in childhood, having been See also:born on the 2nd of See also:December 1825, and proclaimed emperor in See also:April 1831, upon the See also:abdication of his See also:father. Dom Pedro retired to See also:Europe, and died in See also:Paris on the 5th of December 1891. The See also:chief events of his reign had been the emancipation of the slaves, and the See also:war with See also:Paraguay in 1864–70. Dom Pedro was a See also:model cogstitutional See also:sovereign, and a munificent See also:patron of See also:science and letters. He travelled in the See also:United States (1876), and thrice visited Europe (1871–1872, 1876–1877, 1886-1889).
