PELLITORY , in See also:botany, the See also:common name for a small hairy perennial See also:herb which grows on old walls, hedgebanks and similar localities, and is known botanically as Parietaria officinalis (See also:Lat. paries, a See also:wall). It has a See also:short woody rootstock from which See also:spring erect or spreading stems 1 to 2 ft. See also:long, bearing slender leafy branches, and axillary clusters of small See also:green See also:flowers. It belongs to the See also:nettle See also:order (Urticaceae), and is nearly allied to the nettle, Urtica, but its hairs are not stinging.
