PLANK , a See also:

flat piece of See also:timber, sawn and planed; it is technically distinguished from a " See also:board " by its greater thickness, and should measure from 2 to 4 in. in thickness and from 10 to 11 in. in width. The word comes through the Fr. See also:planche (from See also:post-Augustan, See also:Lat. See also:planets, a nasalized See also:adaptation probably of Gr. 7XaE, something flat, especially a flat See also:stone. The use of the word " plank " in the sense of an See also:article in a See also:political See also:programme is of See also:American origin and is due to the use of " See also:platform " for the programme itself.
