REVILLAGIGEDO , an isolated, uninhabited See also:group of rocky islands in the N. Pacific, See also:lat. 8° N., See also:long. 112° W., belonging to See also:Mexico, and forming See also:part of the See also:state of See also:Colima.' They are about 420 M. from the Mexican See also:coast and comprise the large See also:island of Socorro (See also:San Tomas), 24 M. long by an See also:average of 9 M. wide, and the three widely'separated islets of San Betiedicto, Roca Partida and Clarion, with a See also:total See also:area of 320 sq. m. The island of Socorro has an See also:extinct See also:volcano 366o ft. high. The islands have certain remarkable zoological features, comprising several birds and See also:reptiles allied to those of the Mexican See also:main-See also:land but differing from them in See also:species. The See also:archipelago derives its name from the See also:Spanish See also:viceroy who governed Mexico from 1746 to 1755.
