market See also:town in the See also:Ilkeston See also:parliamentary See also:division of See also:Derbyshire, See also:England, ro m. N. by E. of See also:Derby, on a See also:branch of the Midland railway. Pop. of See also:urban See also:district (1901) 10,111. It lies on high ground between the valleys of the See also:Derwent and the Erewash. In the neighbourhood there are extensive collieries, and See also:coke is largely manufactured. Besides See also:iron foundries, blast furnaces and See also:boiler See also:works, the town possesses See also:silk and See also:cotton See also:mills. The See also:charter for the market was granted by See also:Henry III. The district has a large See also:industrial See also:population. To the See also:west of Ripley lies the township of HEAGE (pop. 2889).
