He studied under See also:Mezzofanti at See also:Bologna, and in 1824 became See also:professor of See also:oriental See also:languages at Pisa University. He is best known as the See also:associate of J. F. See also:Champollion (q.v.), whose studies he shared and whom he accompanied in his See also:Egyptian explorations (1828).
