SARONNO , a See also:

town of See also:Lombardy, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Milan, from which See also:city it is distant 13 M. N.N.W. by See also:rail. Pop. (1901) 8729 (town), 9533 (See also:commune). The See also:pilgrimage See also:church of the Madonna dei Miracoli, begun in 1498 by Vincenzo dell' Orto, has a See also:dome of See also:rich See also:architecture externally; the campanile See also:dates from 1516, the See also:rest of the church is later. Internally it is decorated with See also:fine frescoes by Gaudenzio See also:Ferrari, representing a See also:concert of angels, while those in the See also:choir are by Bernardino See also:Luini and are among his finest See also:works (see F. Malaguzzi Valeri in Rassegna d'arte, 1904, 69). The See also:place is well known for its gingerbread (amaretti) and is also a manufacturing town. It is situated on one of the lines (Ferrovia See also:Nord) from Milan to See also:Como, and has See also:branch lines to Seregno, Busto Arsizio and See also:Varese.
