SCHLEIZ , a See also:town of See also:Germany, second See also:capital of the principality of See also:Reuss, Younger See also:Line, situated in a fertile See also:district on the See also:river Wiesenthal, 20 M. by See also:rail N.W. of See also:Plauen. Pop. (1905) 5577• It has a See also:palace, with a See also:chapel and a library, three churches, one of them containing the See also:burial vaults of the princes, several educational establishments, and various small See also:industries such as the manufacture of See also:hosiery, toys, sweetmeats and lamps. It has a See also:market for See also:cattle and pigs. Schleiz was originally a Slav See also:settlement, but received civic privileges in 1359. There was a settlement of the See also:Teutonic See also:Order here, and for some years previous to 1848 the town was the capital of the small principality of Reuss-Schleiz. In the vicinity a See also:battle was fought, on the 9th of See also:October ,8o6, between the See also:French and the Prussians.
