Pop. (1901) 44,451• A Danish factory was established here about the See also:middle of the 17th See also:century, and called by them Frederiksnagar. With the See also:rest of the Danish possessions in India, it was acquired by See also:purchase by the See also:English in 1845. Serampur was the See also:home of the Baptist See also:mission founded by See also:Carey. The mission See also:press has been transferred to See also:Calcutta, but a training See also:college is still maintained by the mission. There is a jute See also:mill, and See also:paper is manufactured.
