SKIRRET , known botanically as See also:

Slum Sisarum (natural See also:order See also:Umbelliferae), a fleshy-rooted perennial, the roots of which are boiled, and afterwards served up like salsify. It requires a See also:free, deep and much enriched See also:soil, and is generally raised from seeds, which should be sown in drills a See also:foot apart about the end of See also:March, the See also:bed being well-watered in dry See also:weather. The roots will be in use about See also:November, and will continue fresh through the See also:winter if carefully stored.
