SONSONATE , the See also:

capital of the See also:department of Sonsonate, See also:Salvador; on the See also:river Sensunapan and the railway from See also:San Salvador to the Pacific See also:port of Acajutla, 13 M. See also:south. Pop. (1905), about 17,000. Sonsonate is the centre of a See also:rich agricultural See also:district, and one of the busiest manufacturing towns in the See also:republic. It produces See also:cotton See also:cloth, pottery, mats and baskets, boots and shoes, See also:sugar, See also:starch, cigars and See also:spirits. Through Acajutla it exports See also:coffee and sugar, and imports See also:grain for See also:distribution to all parts of the interior.
