SPRUE , a tropical disease, prevalent in See also:

India, See also:China, See also:Java, and the See also:West Indies. It is described by See also:Sir See also:Patrick See also:Manson as characterized by a See also:peculiar, inflamed, superficially ulcerated, exceedingly sensitive See also:condition of the mucous membrane of the See also:tongue and mouth; See also:great wasting and See also:anaemia; and more or less See also:diarrhoea, with See also:pale and frothy fermenting stools. It is an obscure disorder, and the treatment recommended is See also:rest and See also:milk See also:diet.
