SUPERCARGO , a See also:

term in maritime See also:law (adapted from the Span. sobrecargo, one over or in See also:charge of a See also:cargo) for a See also:person employed on See also:board a See also:vessel by the owners of the cargo to See also:manage their See also:trade, sell the merchandise at the ports to which the vessel is sailing, and buy and receive goods for shipment homewards. He has See also:control of the cargo unless expressly or impliedly limited by his See also:contract or agreement. He differs from a See also:factor, who has a fixed See also:place of See also:residence at a See also:port or trading place, by sailing from port to port with the vessel to which he is attached.
