He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1879, and from 188o to 1883 studied in the Ecole See also:des See also:Beaux Arts, See also:Paris. In 1886 he became instructor at the See also:Art See also:Institute, See also:Chicago, lecturing there, at the Chicago University, and elsewhere in the See also:United States. He is the author of an exhaustive and authoritative See also:work, The See also:History of American See also:Sculpture (1903). Among his See also:works, in addition to much See also:portraiture, are: " See also:Sleep of the See also:Flowers " and " Awakening of the Flowers," both made for the Columbian Exposition; " Despair " (1898) ; " Solitude of the Soul " (1900), and " See also:Fountain of the Lakes " (1903).
