TIBESTI , a mountainous and little known region of the central See also:

Sahara, inhabited by the See also:Tibbu (q.v.). The See also:country was partly explored in 187o by Gustav See also:Nachtigal; it had not been again visited by Europeans up to 191o, though See also:French See also:officers had reached See also:Borku on its See also:southern See also:borders. By the Anglo-French See also:declaration of the 21St of See also:March 1899 Tibesti was included in the French See also:sphere of See also:influence in See also:North See also:Africa.
