BEAN . The Tonqua, Tonka or Tonquin bean, also called the coumara See also:nut, is the See also:seed of Dipterix odorata, a leguminous See also:tree growing to a height of 8o ft., native of tropical See also:South See also:America. The drupe-like pod contains a single seed possessed of a See also:fine sweet " new-mown See also:hay " odour, due to the presence of See also:coumarin (q.v.).
