He was accused of sympathizing with the See also:rebellion of 1745 and served a See also:term of imprisonment 1746—1747. He then entered the Roman Catholic See also:Church, studied in the Scots See also:College at See also:Rome, and in 1759 accompanied See also:John See also:Geddes (1735—1799), afterwards See also:bishop of See also:Morocco, on a Scottish See also:mission. Ten years later, he was appointed bishop of Daulis in partibus and coadjutor to Bishop See also:James See also:Grant (1706—1778). In 1778 he became See also:vicar apostolic of the See also:lowland See also:district. During the See also:Protestant riots in Edinburgh in 1779 his See also:furniture and library were destroyed by See also:fire. From 1788 to 1793 he was in See also:charge of the Scalan See also:seminary; in 1802 he retired to that of Aquhorties near Inverury which he had founded in 1799. He died there on the 15th of See also:October 1811. His theological See also:works, including The Sincere See also:Christian, The Devout Christian, The Pious Christian and The Scripture See also:Doctrine of Miracles, were edited by Bishop See also:Strain in 1871-1873.
