In the American See also:Civil See also:War he served in the Federal army first as See also:lieutenant-See also:colonel and after See also:February 1862 as colonel of See also:volunteers, taking See also:part in the fighting at See also:Shiloh, See also:Vicksburg and See also:Corinth. He was . captured at Shiloh and was imprisoned for a See also:- TIME (0. Eng. Lima, cf. He died at Ames on the 21st of February 1887.
