In 1768 the See also:family returned to See also:Scotland, and in 1779 Anne married See also:James Grant, an army See also:chaplain, who was also See also:minister of the See also:parish of Laggan, near Fort See also:Augustus, See also:Inverness, where her father was barrack-See also:master. On her See also:husband's See also:death in 18o1 she was See also:left with a large family and a small income. In 1802 she published by subscription a See also:volume of See also:Original Poems, with some See also:Translations from the Gaelic, which was favourably received. In .18o6 her Letters from the Mountains, with their spirited description of Highland scenery and legends, awakened much See also:interest. Her other See also:works are See also:Memoirs of an See also:American See also:Lady, with Sketches of See also:Manners and Scenery in America as they existed previous to the Revolution (18o8), containing reminiscences of her childhood; Essays on the Superstitions of the Highlanders of Scotland (1811) ; and Eighteen See also:Hundred and Thirteen, a Poem (1814). In 1810 she went to live in See also:Edinburgh. For the last twelve years of her See also:life she received a See also:pension from See also:government. She died on the 7th of See also:November 1838.
